To enrol in the Diploma in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics course, applicants must:
- Possess a primary dental qualification (e.g., BDS or equivalent)
- Hold a minimum of one year's experience as a registered dental practitioner
Assessment
Throughout the course, students will undergo assessment through three multiple-choice exams to evaluate their knowledge of the theoretical concepts covered in the course as well as a final written case presentation (clinical case provided)
Qualification
Upon successful completion, you will be awarded the Diploma in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics, a prestigious UK-accredited qualification that demonstrates your expertise in orthodontics.
All of our Diploma courses are internationally recognised, and are accredited in partnership with EduQual. EduQual is a regulated awarding body, approved by SQA Accreditation, a globally-recognised qualifications regulator in the UK.
The course meets the teaching hour requirements of a Level 7 course, which is of a Master level equivalence.
Module overview
The Diploma in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics is structured into six comprehensive online learning courses or units, offering 25 taught modules. Our faculty comprises over 30 expert lecturers, ensuring you receive the best dental orthodontics academic and clinical teaching and continued guidance.
In the opening unit you’ll explore embryology, as well as dental growth and development. Along with the biology of tooth movement, this understanding will be the fundamental to the principles of treatment planning in the modules to come.
The unit will also balance the theoretical understanding with an immediate clinical application through in-depth teaching of orthodontic assessment, cephalometry and the latest techniques in clinical dental photography to ensure you are able to excel at completing assessment and record gathering of your orthodontic patients.
Building on your knowledge, this unit lays the groundwork for precise problem identification, case diagnosis, and formulating an effective treatment plan. Modules include the Principles of Orthodontic Assessment and Diagnosis, Clinical Photography, Cephalometry, Treatment Planning and Tooth Movement.
In Unit 3, explore the world of modern orthodontic appliances, including fixed, removable, functional appliances and revolutionary clear aligners. This unit includes an Introduction to Fixed Appliances, an overview of Orthodontic Appliances, Self-Ligated Braces, Lingual Orthodontics and the first Clear Aligners (I) module.
Expanding your expertise, this unit covers advanced techniques, biomechanics, diagnosis and management of impacted teeth. The unit includes an Introduction to Biomechanics, Advanced Treatment Mechanics and the second module on Clear Aligners (II).
The final unit focuses on the complexities of orthodontic treatment in adults, with clinical work addressing temporomandibular disorders (TMD), periodontal concerns, and the interplay with restorative dentistry. In this unit, expect to study Adult Orthodontic Treatment, Surgical Considerations and complete the final module on Clear Aligners (III). This unit will also cover Marketing an Orthodontic Practice.

The course is 100% online. Students access our bespoke and interactive e-learning platform with online lectures, webinars, and practical techniques. As well as this, the course is supplemented by our remote sessions – Live Study Clubs. In these sessions, students can ask questions, interact with their tutor, and gain a live understanding of challenging topics. Although these are held live, students can access recordings of them to catch up or review via their profile on the VLE.
The LDi offers UK-accredited PG Dip. programmes, providing rigorous academic foundations and practical training. Our faculty’s guidance, innovative online tools, and a supportive community of professionals set us apart.
Upon completion, students receive the London Dental Institute Diploma in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics (PG Dip. Ortho), accredited as Level 7 by EduQual Level 7, a globally recognised UK qualifications regulator.
Graduates gain theoretical and practical skills to enhance their orthodontic careers. Note that this is not a specialist fixed orthodontics training programme, and local requirements for orthodontic treatment may vary.
As a remote learning provider, we cannot provide supervised clinical treatment in a university dental hospital or other institution. However, students are encouraged to treat patients in their clinic/office during the course. Relevant clinical training specific to cases is then shared via the Virtual Learning Environment.
While we would love to welcome you to our face-to-face conference in London, travel to the UK is not required for the course.
Opting for a 100% online orthodontics course offers several advantages. Participants can access course materials and lectures anytime, anywhere, allowing them to balance their studies with other personal and professional commitments. Choosing 100% online study eliminates the need for physical attendance, commuting, and associated expenses, making it a cost-effective and time-efficient option for learners to study with the London Dental Institute.
As the courses are 100% online study, there is no need to attain a Student visa.
You can either pay your tuition fees in the full amount or pay them in monthly instalments. The first payment is due when you sign up for the orthodontics course.
