Module 1

The Biological Basis of Orthodontics

The first module will introduce embryology, growth and development of the face and jaws. This will provide students with an understanding of the biology of tooth moments in orthodontics.

Module 2

Principles of Orthodontic Assessment and Diagnosis

This module will provide the foundations required for accurate problem identification, case diagnosis and treatment planning, including techniques for photography, radiography and cephalometric analysis.

Module 3

Orthodontic Appliances

Gain in depth knowledge of the appliances used in modern orthodontics, including fixed, removable, functional, clear aligners and lingual appliances. Learn to identify clinical situations and uses for each appliance, appropriate to cases in day to day clinical practice.

Module 4

The Foundations of Orthodontic Treatment

Explore the presentation and treatment of class I, II and III malocclusions. The module will also develop understanding on vertical and horizontal issues such as open bite and asymmetries.

Module 5

Advanced Treatment Mechanics

Build on the knowledge acquired from previous modules with teaching on advanced techniques, including TADS, biomechanics and impacted teeth. Retention, relapse and long-term stability of cases is explained.

Module 6

Adult and Multidisciplinary Treatment

The final module covers the common situations encountered when orthodontically treating adults. This will include TMD, periodontal concerns and management, as well as the orthodontic restorative interface.

All Postgraduate Certificate Students have the option to upgrade their qualification to a full UK Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) by attending two intensive week-long face to face training courses held in London, UK.
Meet the faculty and fellow students face to face in an open learning environment. Learn advanced techniques and benefit from hands on training from both UK and international experts. The teaching blocks are designed to maximise your experience, while keeping time away from practice to a minimum.
Upgrading to the Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip) is optional and is not a requirement for the Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert) Qualification. Students may choose to complete online only training and receive a Postgraduate Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics.

There is no such thing as a stupid question and we actively encourage you to ask as many questions as you want, no query is too basic or too complex.

Following successful completion of the course, students will be officially awarded the LDi Postgraduate Certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics (PG Cert. Ortho). This course has been accredited as Level 7 by the official awarding body EduQual Level 7. EduQual is a regulated awarding body, approved by SQA-Accreditation, a globally-recognised national qualifications regulator in the UK.

Students will be taught both theoretical and practical skills, in order to further their skills and confidence in the orthodontic field. Our students should be able to use their knowledge to provide a grounding for a future career in orthodontics. It should be noted that this is not a specialist training programme. Students are advised to investigate the specific requirements for treating orthodontic patients within the country in which they intend to practise, as this may vary.

Applicants should hold a primary dental qualification (for example, BDS or equivalent). Documentation will need to be provided of this and of dental registration. Internet access is required for online learning . Students are expected to be actively working in general practice, and to have treated some simple orthodontic cases already to have a basic understanding of orthodontic treatments.

The course is taught in English therefore both written and spoken understanding of the English language is required. It is expected that applicants are of the equivalent proficiency to IELTS Level 7 (or equivalent). This will ensure that students are able to gain the most from their experience. All Postgraduate Certificate students have the option to upgrade their qualification to a UK Postgraduate Diploma (PG-Dip) by attending two week-long face to face teaching blocks in London, however, this is completely optional and is not a requirement of the Postgraduate Certificate course.

Fees, Costs and Funding

The cost for the course is £7,995 + VAT (if applicable). This fee is fully inclusive of all online teaching material.
