Can orthodontists really influence airway health?
An updated white paper in the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopaedics reinforces that whilst orthodontists are well-placed to screen for signs of sleep-disordered breathing during routine assessment, the evidence does not support a causal link between orthodontic extractions and airway dysfunction, nor should CBCT imaging be used in isolation to diagnose the condition.
