How Your Feedback Shapes the Student Experience at the LDi

At the London Dental Institute, we believe postgraduate education should never stand still. 

Dentistry is constantly changing, from clinical techniques and materials to patient expectations and digital workflows. It’s our responsibility to stay in step with those changes.

That’s why we treat student feedback as one of the most valuable tools we have. Every suggestion, observation, or request from our student community plays a role in shaping how we teach and support our learners.

This month, we’re pleased to share a few updates that have recently been introduced across the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), all based directly on what our students have told us.

Smarter Searching in the Forums

Our Clinical Case and Q&A Forums are a cornerstone of our courses. They’re where students and tutors come together to discuss live cases, ask questions, and share insights from practice. These conversations often lead to real clinical breakthroughs and for newer students, they are a goldmine into the challenges and solutions shared by past cohorts.

Over time, the depth of knowledge within these forums has grown significantly. But with that came a challenge: how can students easily find specific discussions or check if their question has already been covered?

We’ve now introduced a Search function within both forums. Now, our new students can locate key information, explore similar cases, and save valuable time, all by hitting search. This change is a direct response to student feedback and a clear example of how our programmes evolve in collaboration with our learners.

New Content, Inspired by You

Alongside improvements to the platform itself, our academic team is always looking at ways to expand and update the content of each diploma programme. Much of that work starts with student feedback.

One recent request that stood out was for more detailed guidance on ICON resin infiltration – a minimally invasive technique that has become increasingly popular in aesthetic practice. 

In response, we’re currently developing a dedicated ICON webinar for students enrolled in the Diploma in Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry. It will be available soon via the VLE, and we hope it provides exactly the kind of practical support our learners are looking for.

Minor Tweaks to Quizzes and More

Earlier this year, we launched the Diploma in Dental Implantology & Oral Surgery, and the response from our community has been fantastic. We’ve received positive feedback from students about the clarity of teaching and the flexibility of the programme… But we also received notes about areas that needed improvement.

One of the first changes we’ve made is to the CPD quiz for Module 1. We’ve now updated the quiz to bring it fully in line with the course content. It’s a small change, but an important one, and it reflects how seriously we take the learning experience at every level.

All of these changes — from technical updates to content additions — come back to a single idea: our courses are designed to grow with our students and our industry.

We know that for many dentists, choosing to return to structured study is a big commitment. That’s why we work hard to make sure every aspect of the experience is meaningful, supportive, and clinically relevant. When something doesn’t quite work, or when new ideas come to light, we adapt.
