Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry Course

The Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry (PG Dip) is designed for both UK and International general dental practitioners who wish to advance their restorative dental skills. This one year part-time postgraduate course is delivered online. Participants also have the option to attend a week-long face to face teaching conference in London for hands-on practical training.

This evidence based course is is designed to teach contemporary aesthetic concepts and will cover clinical developments in restorative dentistry including digital dentistry, advanced treatment techniques and complex/ multidisciplinary patient care.

Following completion of The Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry students should have the confidence and ability to provide high quality, functional and long lasting restorations to their patients, incorporating the latest advances in aesthetic and restorative clinical practice.

Course Details

This module teaches students evidence based concepts underpinning the delivery of aesthetic and restorative dentistry. Students will develop a greater understanding of treatment modalities and the management of patients requiring aesthetic restorative dental care. Topics covered basic sciences of restorative dental treatment, anatomy and physiology, psychology in relation to aesthetic dental practice.

This module builds upon the previous module to increase students understanding of aesthetic and restorative dentistry. Students are introduced to key clinical concepts and develop their skills in diagnosing and treatment planning both straightforward and more advanced cases. Topics covered include patient assessment and consent, diagnosis and treatment planning, caries management, occlusion, clinical photography, CBCT and radiology.

This module is designed to develop students clinical understanding and skills in delivering direct restorations. Topics covered include rubber dam and isolation techniques, anterior and posterior direct restorations, direct veneers and composite bonding, minimally invasive dentistry, teeth whitening, direct techniques for aesthetic cuspal coverage restorations.

This module will give students a greater knowledge and understanding of indirect restorative procedures. Students will benefit increased confidence in providing aesthetic indirect restorations as a treatment option for their patients. Topics covered include assessment and consent for indirect restorations, treatment planning indirect restorations, laboratory communication and shade taking, principles of extracoronal restorations, anterior and posterior tooth preparation, partial coverage restorations, impression taking and digital scanning techniques, provisional restorations, cementation techniques, removable prosthodontics, maintenance of indirect restorations.

This module brings together the concepts and techniques of aesthetic and restorative dentistry within the wider context of whole patient care. Students are taught, through an evidence based approach, topics on the multidisciplinary management of patients requiring aesthetic restorative dentistry. Topics covered include endodontics, orthodontics, oral surgery, periodontics and general medicine in relation to aesthetic restorative dentistry, immediate and long-term multidisciplinary patient management, advanced clinical skills and aesthetic restorative treatment in the medically compromised patient.

Entry Requirements

All prospective students must have a primary dental qualification to be eligible for enrollment (BDS/BChD/DDS degree or equivalent). As much of the course content is delivered remotely, a computer with internet connection is essential. Face-to-face content and online content is delivered in the English Language only. It is essential that prospective students are able to communicate in English.

Fees, Costs and Funding

£9,995 (UK/EU & International students)

The course fee applies to all students from the UK, EU, and International. This fee secures the student a place on the course, and covers all necessary course materials and equipment required to achieve the Postgraduate Diploma in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry. Access to a dedicated online learning portal and study club is also included. Additional costs associated with residential study in London, including any necessary travel, accommodations, and food, are not included in the course fees.
