August has been another busy month at the London Dental Institute, with new teaching on artificial intelligence in orthodontics, three Live Study Clubs and preparations underway for the next round of enrolments in September.
Here’s what has been happening at the LDI this month.
New AI teaching in Orthodontics
Artificial intelligence continues to develop rapidly across dentistry, with emerging applications spanning diagnostics, treatment planning, radiographic analysis and digital clinical workflows.
This month, the LDI team has been working on updates to course content to reflect some of these developments.
Dr Stefano Carderi, who teaches on the Diploma in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics, now leads two webinars exploring the growing role of artificial intelligence and digital technology in orthodontic practice.
Within Module 5, Diagnostics and Artificial Intelligence in Orthodontics examines current AI applications and digital tools, with a particular focus on their role in diagnosis and treatment planning.
Later in the programme, Digital Orthodontics & AI in Module 15 goes further, looking at the reliability of AI platforms and how tools such as WebCeph can support cephalometric analysis and clinical decision-making.

August at our Live Study Clubs
Alongside the course updates, August has brought another full month of LDI Live Study Clubs.
Sessions took place on 12th and 21st August, with the final Study Club of the month coming up on 28th August.
The Live Study Clubs give dentists an opportunity to spend time with experienced clinicians, explore the thinking behind real clinical decisions and ask questions directly.
They are also completely free to attend and open to the wider dental community, not only current LDI students.

Looking ahead to September
August also gives the LDI team a brief pause before the next enrolments begin in September.
And the work taking place this month reflects a broader part of postgraduate dental education: keeping teaching current as clinical practice continues to develop.
AI is perhaps the clearest example of that right now.
New platforms and applications will continue to emerge, but staying current does not mean clinicians need to adopt every new technology that appears. It requires the knowledge to understand what is changing, the confidence to question the evidence behind new tools and the clinical judgement to decide where they can genuinely support patient care.
That balance between curiosity and critical thinking will continue to shape teaching at the LDI as dentistry evolves.
