As we approach the middle of the year, there’s a noticeable shift in pace. The flurry of the new year gives way to a steadier rhythm—a chance to enjoy the longer days, reflect, and realign with the goals we set earlier in the year.
At the London Dental Institute, this period also marks the arrival of our latest group of postgraduate students.
A Warm Welcome to the May Cohort!
Last month, we were delighted to open the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to our newest students.
This included our second-ever intake of the Diploma in Dental Implantology & Oral Surgery, as well as fresh cohorts beginning the Diploma in Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopaedics and the Diploma in Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry.
With each new intake, we also reflect and refine. Thanks to feedback from our students, we’ve introduced several updates to the VLE, including:
- New materials and updated assessments for the DIOS course
- A smart search feature that lets students explore real cases from previous cohorts
- Streamlined navigation and clearer menu options for an easier, more intuitive experience

What Happens in Your First Month?
For those considering joining us in the future, you might be wondering what the first few weeks at LDi look like. Here’s what our new students experience when they start their learning journey with us:
Step 1: Registration and Welcome
After registration, students gain immediate access to the VLE. They receive a warm welcome from our support team, including a detailed course schedule and a link to their first Live Study Club session.
Step 2: Your First Day
On the official course start date, students are greeted live by our tutors and support team. At the same time, we unlock their first module.
New modules are released every two weeks, allowing students to progress at a steady pace without becoming overwhelmed.
Here’s what’s included in the first month:
For Orthodontics students:
- Module 1: Orthodontic Assessment and Diagnosis
- Module 2: The Biological Basis of Orthodontics
- Two Live Study Clubs with tutors
For Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry students:
- Module 1: Craniofacial Anatomy
- Module 2: Biomimetic Dentistry
- One Live Study Club
For Dental Implantology & Oral Surgery students:
- Module 1: Surgical Patient Assessment
- Module 2: Implant & Surgical Anatomy
- One Live Study Club
Step 3: Clinical Support
The learning journey doesn’t stop with video lectures and reading materials. From day one, our students are supported clinically through the VLE’s Clinical Case Forum.
Here, they can post real patient cases from their own practice and receive guidance from some of the field’s most experienced clinicians. It’s a unique, virtual mentoring experience that brings theory into the clinic.
