Back

There’s a particular kind of anticipation that always arrives around enrolment week at the London Dental Institute.

Perhaps it comes from the conversations we have with clinicians preparing to take the next step in their careers. Perhaps it’s the atmosphere inside the Virtual Learning Environment as new students begin introducing themselves and working through the Fundamentals modules…

This Friday, 29th May, we officially welcome our newest cohort across all three Diploma programmes. At the same time, our faculty and education teams have continued refining course content, hosting Live Study Clubs, and expanding teaching materials across the programmes.

Here’s what’s been happening this month.

Enrolment Closes This Friday

The next intake across all three Diploma programmes begins on Friday 29th May, and incoming clinicians have already started working through the Fundamentals modules inside the VLE.

For many dentists, this stage marks the beginning of a significant professional transition. Some are preparing to offer orthodontic treatment for the first time. Others are looking to build greater confidence in restorative treatment planning or implant workflows.

What’s always interesting at this stage is seeing how quickly clinicians reconnect with structured education once they begin again. The discussions inside the forums begin almost immediately, webinars start filling up, and the sense of community across the programmes becomes visible very quickly.

There is still time to secure one of the remaining places before enrolment closes this Friday.

Continuing to Expand the VLE

Behind the scenes, course content across the programmes has continued to evolve throughout May as part of the wider LDI branding and educational updates.

New webinars, revised teaching materials, practical exercises, and updated VLE sections have all been introduced this month, alongside new lecturers joining the programmes.

The focus remains firmly on clinically relevant education that fits around modern practice life. As dentistry continues becoming more digitally integrated, the way clinicians engage with postgraduate education is changing too. Shorter educational video formats, interactive discussions, and practical case-based teaching are becoming increasingly important parts of how dentists build confidence over time.

That has been reflected clearly in the feedback received this month.

What Students Have Been Saying

Some of the feedback from students throughout May has been particularly encouraging, especially around the practical teaching and webinar sessions.

One Orthodontics student described their module simply by saying, “Every part of this module was great.”

Another commented that “The short video series made it easy for me to concentrate,” while several clinicians highlighted the webinar teaching specifically.

Across the other programmes, clinicians also shared positive feedback regarding the practical focus of the teaching. One Aesthetic & Restorative Dentistry student described the photography module as “the best photography course I have seen so far,” while a Dental Implantology & Oral Surgery student commented that “The quality of the presentations was extraordinary!”

It’s always rewarding to see students responding positively not only to the academic content itself, but also to the clarity, accessibility, and practical application of the teaching.

Live Study Clubs This Month

This month, we also hosted three Live Study Clubs with a combined attendance of 532 clinicians from across the international LDI community.

The sessions generated thoughtful discussion around treatment planning, patient communication, and clinical techniques, with many attendees highlighting the engaging and discussion-led format of the webinars afterwards.

One attendee noted that the session offered “great insights into patient communication,” while another praised the “clear delivery and practical focus” of the teaching.

Three further Live Study Clubs are scheduled across May, and we’re looking forward to continuing those conversations over the coming weeks.

Looking Ahead to Summer

As we move toward the summer months, attention now turns toward welcoming the new cohort and continuing the ongoing development of the programmes.

One of the most rewarding aspects of postgraduate dentistry is seeing clinicians re-engage with structured education and begin applying ideas directly into practice again. That process rarely happens all at once. More often, it builds gradually through repetition, discussion, reflection, and consistent exposure to practical teaching over time.

That spirit has shaped much of what we’ve been doing throughout May, and we’re excited to carry that momentum into the months ahead.
